Student Council
Sponsor: Jennifer Miller
The Emerald Coast Middle School Student Council offers students the opportunity to fully participate in and understand the process of democracy. The ECMS Student Council is designed for students to plan and participate in various school and community activities. Monthly meetings are held where, as leaders, Student Council works together with the ECMS administration to better serve the ECMS family.
Student Council consists of 8th grade officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary. and Treasurer. In addition, we have two class representatives from both 7th, 6th, 5th grades. Students of all ability levels are encouraged to run for office. Criteria for participation include maintaining academic and behavioral expectations and a willingness to report information back to their classes.
In recent school years, the ECMS Student Council has been responsible for attaining drink machines, recycling bins, planting gardens and a tree in celebration Earth Day. Student Council has created T-shirts, as well as a class bench accompanied by remembrance plaque. Last year, Student Council was proud to encourage canned food donations to assist Caring and Sharing of South Walton. Students and staff were able to help 425 South Walton families including 590 children with Thanksgiving dinners. Student Council is proud to participate in other fundraisers, such as “The Penny Wars” and encourage recycling. 2018-2019 will be a year to remember!
